From, "How green was my Valley" by Richard Llewellyn
"I saw behind me those who had gone,
And before me, those who are to come,
I looked back and saw my father,
And his father,
And all our fathers,
And in front, to see my son, and his son
and the sons upon sons beyond.
And with their eyes were my eyes.
As I felt, so they had felt
As then, so now, as tomorrow and forever
Then I was not afraid
For I was in a long line that had no beginning and no end.
And the hand of his father grasp my father's hand,
And all, up and down the line
Stretched from Time that was to time that is,
And is not yet,
Raised their hands to show the link.
And we found we were one......
THE SEARCH FOR ANCESTORS
All though history people have been searching to find their roots. It has never been easy, even when there wasn't much history to search. Now it is even harder. You would think with the World Wide Web, it would have become so much easier, but that's not the case. Besides finding out that the very courthouse that would have housed a much sought after record, has burned down, there are mind bogling things like people spelling a name any ole way on old records or the worst stumbling block of all, people recording all the wrong information on the web. One lady stole my greatgrandfather (John Jackson Wyles) and put him way back in the 1700's. Then when I told her that this was for sure my greatgrandfather, she wouldn't believe me. Just left it on the web the way it was.Dispite all this, I have managed to accumulate quite a good many ancestors. The Franks history just fell in my lap, after searching for years to no avail. All of a sudden we had connected back to the 1600 and to the Taylors & Ross families, who came along with it.
I have never had to pay for any of the information I recieved and would never charge for any of it. There are lots of web site that charge for their services, but I don't subscribe to them or give them any of my information. All my info has come from census records, wills and a lot of digging around in Houston's Clayton Library, which is strictly for genealogy or from well documented info from distant relatives.
We had alway been lead to believe that the Wyles name was a very local name and there weren't many of us. Well, not true, I have talked to distant relatives from all over. And there are many people named Wyles, that I can find no connection to at all.
As you know, we were told all our lives, that we were Irish. I can find no connection to the Irish at all. There was a Wyles, on the web, who said all his ancestors came from Ireland, but, we could find no connection between him and me. It is still a possibility that some of our people moved from England to Ireland and then to America, I just haven't found it yet. If or when I do, believe me it will be put on this site.
I recieved this e-mail from a Wyles from Charlstown, County Mayo, Ireland. He says I should do some more research on the subject.
The E-Mail:
Dear Mrs Gardner,
I myself was born in charlstown county mayo in the republic of ireland,
As far back as anyone knows there have always been Wyles in charlstown which goes to show that some Wyles do live in ireland,
I know it must be hard for a newish country such as America with no history of its own and the poeple need to grasp for any staws of belonging to a culture with a historic past.
From a detailed search many results may be found but as the case is many irish govermental departments are still using old filing methods and a trace can only be made by actually being here and doing the work yourself.
there are and always will be Wyles in ireland.
one thing iv'e always been told is that one of my ancestors was the arch-deacon of ireland,(the irish Wyles are all catholic).
after reading your site yesterday i had to investigate some myself and my research is showing that no wyles left directly from ireland to the americas.
i can only theorise that the Wyles from England or Austrailia must have made the journey to the americas.
it may be a case that yes somewhere in your familys history you did come from ireland but to make such a trace would be near impossible even with todays technologys as many of the irish records were destroyed in a fire in mayo.
i wish u luck on your journey into history and if i can be of any help
please ask.
god bless.
